Welcome to the IoA/RGO Sun Cluster ================================== You are free to use any machine in the Hoyle or RGO Common Terminal areas - they are all clustered and all files are accessible everywhere. Your account has been set up with some basic dot files. Feel free to modify or scrap them if you wish. DON'T simply copy someone else's setup; you will often find that they've managed to stop something important from working Important notes: ---------------- Please change your password when logged into cass26 or cass27 command : passwd Our email address is ast.cam.ac.uk - mail is accessible from the whole cluster You have a file called mbox in your home directory. DO NOT DELETE THIS FILE. It contains all your incoming mail and you will lose it if you delete this file. The fvwm2 window manager will start automatically on an Xterminal. On a machine console type startx or openwindows to begin a windows session. If you wish to edit your .fvwm2rc file (to control the window manager) you will need to copy the file /opt/X11R6/lib/fvwm2/.fvwm2rc to ~/.fvwm2rc On the Linux machines this file is in /etc/X11/fvwm2/system.fvwm2rc and the corresponding fvwm95-2 file is /etc/X11/fvwm95-2/fvwm2rc95 The enviromental variables used are HOSTS : Machines of the cluster which you may access Please add your personal aliases in .mytcshrc More information may be found in our Beginners Guide on the web. The address for this is http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/local/newbie/ We recommend using pine for reading mail, netscape for accessing the web pages and emacs as an editor. We have a helpdesk that may be accessed using the command 'servdesk' when logged onto cass26 or by emailing 'servdesk@ast.cam.ac.uk' with a description of the problem. Use servdesk if you have any problems with your account.
